Anthony “Tony” Kozenski   died October 24, 2009

I got a telephone call from Don Deweber that Tony Kozenski died October 24, 2009.  We was an active Pennsylvania checker player who usually attended the PA State Open. Tony was a numerous PA State & District 3 Champ, promoter / support of PA Checkers, and ACF District 3 Manager.  I understand he went into the hospital September 19, because of a stroke, and that with further complications from kidney failure and pneumonia was too much.  If you wish to send a sympathy card to his wife Mrs. Diana Kozenski, their address is: 113 West Terrace Avenue, New Castle, PA 16102-1551.  No obituary available.  Here are some links to PA State Open Tys:  2003 Pennsylvania Open   <>   2004   <>   2005   <>   2006    <>    2007   <>    2008   <>   2009   Below are two pictures of Tony at the 2006 Ohio Open.

Tony Kozenski - PA (standing) vs. Louis Cowie - OH.  If you look closely, you'll see that Louis is actually wearing
his sock this year.  Checker Trivia: They are playing with Louis Cowie's
TOURNAMENT CHECKERS, these checker
sets were made in 1975 and the only checker sets to ever have the
American Checker Federation name on the box.

ANTHONY KOZENSKI, age 82, died on October 24, 2009, at Jameson Memorial Hospital. A private service was held at Noga’s Funeral Home in New Castle, PA. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Anthony graduated from New Castle High School and was a First Class Machinist at various steel plants in the area.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

His greatest enjoyment was the game of checkers which he learned at the age of 14.  Anthony went on to become   a checker champ of Western PA for many years.

Anthony was a fun loving, gentle man who was loved by   everyone he met. He was very intelligent and readily shared his knowledge with family and friends.  He is survived by his wife, daughter, and grandson who considered him their hero and “king”.

Memories and condolences can be shared at bruscille@yahoo.com.  From Barbara Ruseille.

Darlene Stallsworth sent me this Obituary 2/26/2010 which will be published in the MCA Newsletter.  Editor’s  Note: As a tribute to Anthony Kozenski, Richard Beckwith sent me three games he played with Anthony and  one game is published in this newsletter.  The other two games will be in the next newsletter.
